Kothagudem set to become a major technical education hub

The coal hub of Kothagudem, the miners den is soon to be the headquarters of a new district to be carved out of Khammam, is all set to become a major technical education hub with the prestigious  ambitious proposal to upgrade University College of Engineering (Kakatiya University) into a university fast gaining momentum.
The University College of Engineering has a huge  campus spread in about 397 acres in the coal town, considered a huge wide mega industrial hub of the State.
Originally established as Kothagudem School of Mines under the Osmania University jurisdiction during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Jalagam Vengala Rao in 1978, the institute became part of Kakatiya University following promulgation of an ordinance redefining the jurisdictions of the universities in 1995, sources said.
The college subsequently introduced B.Tech (EEE), B.Tech (CSE), M.Sc (Tech) and two self-finance courses in IT and ECE branches apart from the B.Tech (Mining) course. Paucity of funds created severe strain on the finances of the university college over the years.
The students of the university college and the inmates of the college-attached hostel made a series of representations to the authorities and public representatives seeking provision of requisite amenities in the institution.

Inspiring Math Learning Via Coding

For too many teachers and parents, Computer coding may be the equivalent to Klingon; a complex language in which only the bravest (which in this context means 'nerdiest') among us know.Coding allows children a way to create the world as they see it or how they think it should be. It offers both a bridge for analytical data as well as creativity.

Coding gives definition to abstract concepts, passing onto a learner the ability to create huge (in a literal sense) learning situations that are too impossible or improbable to use in real life. Building a roller coaster is one example of how math and coding connect. During the creation of a roller-coaster; velocity, gravity, angles, and speed are explored to build a thrilling ride. Through the use of math and coding, a team can design a structure without the risk of a lawsuit or loss of life.

'The Common Core Math Standards' call for proficient students to "plan a solution pathway," which is also a skill improved upon through coding. Being able to both view problems as a whole unit--while still seeing the sum of many parts-- is precisely what coding does. Students can independently decide on what to use code for and then do research to find already written code. This can be pieced together to generate an agreed upon end product. There is little reason to create code from scratch initially as a piecemeal approach can encourage collaboration--an underutilized skill within many traditional math lessons.

Most code will need to be personalized, but students can learn how coding works through a collective approach. Through collaborative methods, students gain the edge needed to generate personal creations. In doing this, students build reasoning, communication, and problem solving skills.

CBSE to ease Class 12 Math exam difficulty level

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said it will scale down the difficulty level of the class 12 mathematics question paper next year after an unusually tough exam drove millions of students to tears and hurt their scores.

The board announced a revamp of the paper’s pattern, introducing short-answer type questions carrying two marks and reducing the number of controversial higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) questions. The HOTS questions will now carry only 10 marks and will be split into two sections of four and six marks. Students will also be given more choice.

Teachers welcomed the move, saying the tough HOTS questions were responsible for raising the difficulty level of the paper this year as they carried substantial weightage. HOTS questions are tricky and for the past two years, they have been exceptionally tough. It is good that they will be restricted to only 10% now, a maths teacher said.

What makes a Teacher 'A Good Teacher' ?

Though teaching is perceived as relaxing job compared to other professions but it doesn’t look like it is. The requirements and expectations of being a teacher are almost equal or even more than the other professions but it is not realised as the output of the efforts aren’t instant. Usually a teacher’s responsibility is perceived to be limited to explaining concepts and making sure that students are learning every day in school. However, knowingly or unknowingly a teacher shapes the students’ childhood and learning in many ways. The teacher has the potential to impact a child’s life in following ways:

Building personality:

Children observe more than we do. As a child, when they are trying to understand the world, they observe, imitate, and get influenced very easily. It can prove to be either beneficial or harmful, depending on how one act upon it. As a teacher not just what you teach, how you behave with students, how much respect you give them, the tone with which you speak , the way you dress, the way you conduct yourself is observed by students almost every day. So inculcation of soft skills can be very much dependent upon teacher’s conduct in class. Thus using this wisely can help in shaping personality of students.

Helping build faith and relations:

Almost everyone likes getting noticed, appreciated and politely guided by their mentors; imagine how big a difference can these small acts make in kid’s life? In a class of 30-40 students, if children’s efforts are appreciated timely and teacher takes care of what every child does and knows why he/she does so, helps build a bond between the teacher and students. If the teacher can step ahead from just knowing that a student hasn’t done assignments and has scored low to be able to foresee or reason out why a child hasn’t performed as per expectation, would mean that the teacher knows him/her and has built a bond. This bond not just helps student face their problems, share it with teachers but develop their faith in making relations and helps them to build new bonds with other people.
