National Forest Skill Development Centre set up in Dehradun

A National Forest Skill Development Centre has been set up in Dehradun to equip youths for jobs in the forest sector and help mitigate the problem of migration of people from the hills in search of work.

It is one of a kind institution in the whole country where youth from all over India can converge and get skill development training. It will help them get employment in the forest sector and rein in large scale migration from the hills in search of livelihood, Union minister of forest and environment Prakash Javadekar said.

Stopping migration from hills in search of livelihood has been a major problem for successive governments in Uttarakhand. On forest fires which destroyed thousands of hectares of land in Uttarakhand this season, Javadekar said the wildlife institute has been asked to submit a report on the forest blazes in the state and the extent of damage caused by them within 15 days.

IIM-A will launch e-learning programmes

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will offer online distance learning courses to deliver management education.

The institute will launch several programmes in the coming months in collaboration with NIIT Ltd and Hughes Education, companies that provide online learning services, the leading business school said in a statement in Ahmedabad.

The institute has signed agreements with both the companies to deliver management education content using electronic mode in the form of synchronous studio-to-classroom programmes.

Management education is going through dramatic changes, especially with regard to infusion of technology challenging the traditional content delivery model, it said.

IIM-A is set to launch several e-learning programmes over the next few months and has tied up with NIIT and Hughes to deliver education in the form of synchronous studio-to- classroom programmes.

UGC asks varsities to set up admission helpline

With the new academic session being round the corner and admission process already underway in various universities, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all varsities to set up 24x7 helpline to address admission related queries.

With the new academic session to commence soon, it is understood that all universities are getting busy with the process of admission in various programmes of study offered at different levels of higher education.

The admission procedure constitutes one of the most significant aspects of institutional functions and can lead to a lot of hassle and confusion for students if not carried out with utmost care and clarity, UGC Secretary Jaspal Sandhu said in a letter to Vice Chancellors.
